A double shock valve (also known as a double relief valve or cross valve) primarily functions as a safety component in hydraulic systems, protecting components from sudden pressure surges and overloads
• Pressure surge protection: When a hydraulic cylinder or motor suddenly stops, or hits an obstacle, a violent pressure surge can occur. The shock valve opens and directs the oil away before the pressure damages hoses or machine parts.
• Double-acting safety: As the name suggests, it protects both sides of a hydraulic cylinder (both forward and return lines).
• Tank relief: The valve is typically set to a certain maximum pressure. When this pressure is exceeded, the valve opens and connects the loaded line to the return line (tank), stabilizing operation.
• Application: They are often used on machines with hydraulic functions that are exposed to heavy shocks, e.g. front loaders on tractors, excavators or hydraulic motors that need to be able to stop quickly
